Kid’s Winter Collection – Part I: Thermals and Winter Accessories

by Kosha Admin 03 Sep 2024

Skiing on the slopes of the  Swiss Alps or holidaying in  Swedish Lapland, your next family vacation might be just around the corner.

Along with your other winter packing, you also need to include some basic clothing for low temperatures.

Thermals are of specific interest here, like a trip to a winter destination would never be complete without them. And there is also the need for accessories that you must pack in so that your kids can have a wonderful time while looking stylish in snow.

Get Thermals for an Inner Protection

The winter layering system emphasises the importance of a base layer for your body in order to preserve your body heat in the cold. Therefore, an ideal base layer should be of a fabric suited for a particular temperature.

Thermals are to be worn by a child as a base layer on a winter holiday, along with other layers as well. The fabric of the thermals may differ depending upon whether it is a light winter or severe one.

For example:

Boy's Cotton Sleeveless Thermal Vests and Kid's Cotton Full Sleeve Thermal  Vests are made up of Polyester Cotton Blend and are able to withstand a temperature range of 15°C to 7°C. You can find similar protection for the lower body in the form of Boy's Cotton Long John Thermal and Girl's Cotton Long John Thermal. So your next trip to wintry New York probably should include something along these lines for your kids.

On the other hand, a Boy's Wool Mark Sleeveless Thermal Vest or a Girl's wool-mark Long John Thermal comprises of Merino Wool and can do even better in colder temperatures up to -15°C. So, those husky driven sledge rides through some really chilly winds in Norway could be a lot better with these types of thermals.

Accessories that Keep Children Warm

Imagine taking your children to the Swiss Alps in mid-winters and finding them excited and overjoyed while playing in the snow. You won’t regret bringing some really useful kid’s accessories for your children that would protect them from head to toe. Complete winter protection would include a cap for the ears, mufflers for the neck, gloves for the fingers and finally socks for keeping the toes warm.

Winter caps: A winter cap keeps a child’s head and ears warm enough to withstand frosty winter winds. All you need to do is to find the right size, fabric and if you require, the right style and colour and your child are good to go.

For example, get a Polka Dot Cap for Kids made from Acrylic Wool to get adequate warmth in temperatures ranging from 10°C to 0°C.

A Pure Wool Balaclava instead would be ideal for your trip to Finland, where temperatures are as low as -15°C.

Winter Gloves: The right kind of gloves will keep your kid’s hands warm so that they can play in the snow and have a blast. You could get them woollen mittens, woollen gloves, water-resistant gloves or even fingerless gloves depending on the cities you are visiting and the temperature there.

For example, if you are in a ski resort in Austria, chances are that there will be a harsh chill in the air with temperature dipping well below into the minus territory. Pure Wool Gloves (suitable for 1-3 years) are the perfect fit in these conditions with its temperature range of 0°C to -10°C.

A pair of Water Resistant Gloves (suitable for 7-10 years), on the other hand, are ideal for wet winters in the United Kingdom, with the 100% polyester lending warmth in temperatures up to 4°C.

Winter Socks: A place such as Delhi could be extremely harsh in the mid-winter days, whereas snowy mountains of Swiss Alps could be even more numbing. So, protect your children from any unnecessary exposure to cold by covering their feet with some winter socks. And there are different kinds of them to choose from. You could get knee-length sports socks, such as the ski socks which even come with padded ankle protection. A pair of crew socks should cover up to the mid-calf region of a leg and are often available in different sizes.

Muffler: So you are on a holiday treat to Melbourne, Australia in July and that cold breeze flowing through the streets of Melbourne starts upsetting the kids. This is where a winter muffler will keep your kid’s neck warm and if they care, provide a certain stylistic element to their attire.

A Hearts Muffler For Kids is one made from Acrylic Wool and is capable of withstanding a temperature range of 10°C to 0°C.

Whereas the Stripes And Dots Muffler For Kids could do even better enduring the range of 0°C to -10°C.

This is the first in the 2 part series of Kid’s Winter Collection. Read the other post about the “Mid Layer and Shell Layer”.
