Kosha, a 70 year-old journey from Trench coats to travel wear
Published in Afternoon Dispatch and Courier in September’97, to commemorate 50 years of Davysons. Pictured here Mr. Alimchand Vazirani, son of Mr. Devidas Vazirani.
Circa 1947 Mr Devidas Vazirani with his three sons, opened a clothing store in the heart of Bombay, aptly naming it Davysons. In addition to trench coats, jackets, thermal wear and various winter accessories, Davysons became the go-to winter wear store. In 1996 Mrs Vandana Jhangiani, daughter of Mr Alimchand and Mrs Prem Vazirani lead the way with the renowned Prrem’s store. Such was her passion and warmth that it was fondly called The Friendly Store. The family-owned business was once again passed on to the third-generation lead by Yuktie Jhangiani.
Travel in their DNA
From swimming in the Juhu Beach to climbing atop the Sahyadris, sisters Yuktie and Diipti took mini trips around India with their grandfather, Mr Alimchand Vazirani. Imparting teachings of the Bhagwat Gita and Yoga, he inculcated the habit of waking up early and going for walks and exercising, a practice he followed always.
Over the years, the sisters have had their own experiences with travels. Observing and experiencing the needs of the current age travellers, a need to rebrand Prrem’s came into effect, giving birth to Kosha!
What is Kosha?
The name Kosha has its origins in the Sanskrit language, meaning layers. With travel as purpose and passion in life, along with sustainability and accountability as core foundations of Kosha’s beliefs, Yuktie founded the travel wear brand in the year 2017.
The Layers of Kosha
With the change in the way we travel, clients were increasingly demanding international quality products. They found wool thermals itchy. That category had not seen a change in decades. After extensive research and trials, Kosha presented an innovative material for the base layer made from
Bamboo mixed with Merino wool, suitable for temperatures as low as -30°C.
Prime importance was given to the longevity and quality of the product. Today it's a one-stop travel wear store that offers thermals, puffer jackets, coats, beanies, technical socks, and accessories. The materials, artisans, designers, manufacturers are all locally sourced.
The company dispatches its products in ergonomic, economic and environment-friendly fabric packaging that turns into sling bags! The inquisitive and trained staff at the store will get into the depth of your travel plans - location, temperature, duration, the works, and help you with the most suitable options.
Old Jacket, New Places
The passion for travel is a life-long commitment to nature. To maintain a balance between the two, it is imperative to focus on sustainability and ecology. Besides, it takes serious effort to get comfortable in one’s clothing, especially if one is travelling to cold places.
With this, the Kosha Repair Shop was born. Walk into the Kosha Retail store on Linking Road, Bandra with your old jackets and walk out with a refurbished quirky one!
Comfort Companions Quirkiness in design and quality material, together defines the layers of Kosha, the go-to winter wear for lifestyle travel. Their loyal customers have travelled to mountains in extreme cold climatic conditions like Mt.Elbrus, Yosemite, Ladakh, even the excruciating Chadar Trek to name a few.
From luxury travel to adventure trips, their collection has seen it all. Wishing Kosha a long and hopefully a warm way ahead!
